Can I have temporary dreads?
If you don't want to commit your hair to dreads quite yet but love the look, you can try Synthetic Dreads. We use highest quality hair and no chemicals to install custom coloured locks. Unlike natural dreads, you won’t need to wax or twist them, and your own hair is protected underneath. Synth Dreads require maintenance approximately every 2 months, and the same dreads can be reused many times if well cared for. If you’re looking for something even MORE temporary than that, we can...

Can you remove my locks for me?
People are always amazed at the results they get with our Emergency Removal Kit & we
use the exact same product in the shop, but sometimes it just really helps to have
that extra set of hands! Removal in the shop is $75 an hour, but we can't say for sure how long it will take. More than any of our services, Dreadlock Removal
depends on so many factors: how long you've had them, how you put them in, what
products you used, etc. But we can tell you this for sure: it DOES work!

Does the Lock Shop stock all of the KB products I love?
The
Knotty Boy Lock Shop and Salon is our flagship storefront, stocking every
single one of our tried and true hair products. If you pop in, you might even
get to test-drive a new one that hasn't hit the web yet! We also stock a great
selection of hats, dreadbands, beads and accessories.

How long does my hair need to be to get dreads in the Lock Shop?
We need a minimum of 6 inches
of hair to start dreads in the salon. Can’t wait that long? We can start dreads
with Human Hair Extensions at 4 inches! We’ll book you for two days
back-to-back, that way you don’t have to walk around with short little stubby
locks for long! Day 1 will be sectioning and dreading your natural hair, and
day 2 will be adding your length. If most of your hair is ready
to go, but you’re waiting for your bangs to grow out, we can usually do a few

I would really like my dreads to be longer! What are my options?
You
have a couple of different option for lengthening your dreads.We offer both
Human Hair Dreadlock Extensions and Synthetic Dread Extenders.

I've heard you offer Human Hair Extensions! Can you tell me a bit more?
Human Hair Extensions are a great option for lengthening your hair, or for adding
density and volume. We add hair in individual sections which blend seamlessly
with your natural hair, using no glues or chemicals. This service requires a

What am I getting into, maintenance-wise, if I get locks in your shop?
Starting your locks with us in the Lock Shop will get you much tighter dreads that mature WAY faster. Since you're getting out of the gate with actual knots already formed, you need just a fraction of the wax to protect your locks, you don't need it to hold them together. Who's going to do my hair when I come into the Lock Shop?
That’s an excellent question!
You’re going to end up hanging out with one of two wicked talented and
superfun ladies. Anyone working in the Lock Shop is a classically trained
hairdresser, they just chose the path of least lameness! All of our stylists
