I don't want big locks that every body will notice - I want short ones like a little below my ear lobes - but my concern is school and the public. I'm only 12 and a half. By the time my hair's all at the right length and its all dreaded, I'll be 13, so is it alright to have them at a young age? And also I'll be a WHITE dreaded 13 year old. Does that sound ok? .: Knotty Boy FAQs

No, we don't think you are too young to have dreads, and who cares if you are white! Check out Knotty Ozzie on our Sponsored page – he was 3 when he decided he wanted locks. Locks are for anyone who thinks they'd like to have them. Now, they do take a lot of maintenance in the beginning, and can be quite a pain sometimes, but if you are patient and don't care if your friends tease you about having a rat's nest on your head for a while, then with time they WILL look awesome. You can always wear a hat or one of our rasta tams from the website. Before you decide to go for it, though, you have to make sure it's ok with your parents! And you can always just try it out for a day or two with gel to see if you like how they look, and if not, it's not too hard to comb and wash them out again.

yeh, with you being white certain kids WILL often have a problem with you having dreads, particularly if their dads have them as i have found... I get told i'm doing it wrong! You just have to sit tight, the contant questioning at school is over (mostly) after about a week... Trust me though, it's worth it! kt (14yrs old, fully dreaded since early June!)

It Can Suck
I got dreads 3 weeks ago, I got a fair bit of "but you aren't black" and "they look greasy" etc.. but now people just don't bother about them. It takes patience but its worth it when they finally shut up!
