Knotty Boy Shampoo

Dread Bar, Liquid Dread Shampoo, All Purpose Bars

article How long should I wait before I start washing my new dreads with your shampoo?
We recommend waiting two weeks after you install your locks before washing them for the first time, then once a week (on average) after that.

article I don't have dreads; can I use your dread shampoo?
KB’s a great shampoo if you have an itchy or irritated scalp. You’d probably wanna use it once a week max to prevent overdrying – and remember it has NO conditioners, so you’ll want to be taking care of that separately.

article I see you've got some shampoo bars in different scents. Can I switch up from the Dread Bar and use those to wash my dreads?
You can switch to the All Purpose Shampoo Bars if you’ve had your dreads for a year or more. They’re more conditioning than our dread bar and are suitable for mature locks and undreaded, loose hair.

article What's the best way to wash my dreads?
Well, you really only need to wash your scalp! So you can either rub the bar directly on your noggin, or you can lather it up in your hands. When you rinse it out, the diluted shampoo will be plenty to keep your locks clean. If you soap up your dreads themselves you will not get all the soap out again, creating buildup. Really – they don’t need it.

article What's the difference between the Dread Shampoo bar and the Dread Shampoo liquid?
Formula-wise, absolutely nothing. They’re the exact same recipe! The dread bar is cured, while the liquid is left as, you guessed it – liquid. As a by-product of the curing process, the dread bar will foam up when you lather it like a traditional shampoo; the liquid will not. To create this lather in the liquid shampoo we would have to add chemicals, and we’d rather keep it natural for you. In the end, this one comes down to personal choice.
