What's the difference between the dreads I start at home and the locks you start in the Shop? They look WAY tighter when you do them!

Most dreads get started using a version of the “backcomb-and-wax” method we share in the ‘how to dread’ video tutorial. The knots are held together by the Dread Wax, and by your constant attention! Dreads started by our Lock Shop stylists are woven using our proven, professional techniques, resulting in a very tightly locked dread from day one, and one that matures much faster overall. It’s pretty tough to explain, but really basically we use very small crochet hooks to felt the dreads. We don’t “interlock” the roots, ensuring you don’t end up with holes or weak spots. Dreads started in the KB Lock Shop keep much more length than strictly backcombed ones, and require just a fraction of the wax and maintenance!
