Knotty Music

knotty music to get your dreadlocks shakin!

Goodnight My AndromedaSomewhere in space, there exists a dynamic that alters even familiar sounds into psychedelic masterpieces.  A realm where tones and rhythmic occurrences bounce off one another, and absorb and bubble with others.  A place where no words live, but every melodic idea fulfills it's potential, and exists for the pure beauty and mind enhancing purposes that raise the human spirit through music.  This is the place from which the music on "Goodnight My Andromeda" comes.

Imagine DJ Shadow meeting Mr Bungle at Beck's BBQ. "Goodnight my Andromeda" is 11 tracks of phat beats and trippy energy, and other than drum loops, it is all original music. Jakob plays the guitar, bass, didj, keyboard, and even his squeaky chair! It isn't just one loop that plays for 3 minutes - its all music, with swells and darkness, build-ups and movements. They are full songs, with a life each of their own, yet they all exist together to create a CD that takes you on an intensive musical journey. This is an experience to be had.

Finger Eleven

One of our bigger sponsored bands- the fact that this hard-edged, guitar-heavy group is opening for Tool all over the country should tell you something about their kick-ass sound. (And they do a cover of Depeche Mode's Walking in my Shoes, yeah baby.) Very cool website, too - check it out.

Jonathan Richman
OK, so it's been far overdue, but here is another installment for this section because we just can't keep quiet about Jonathan Richman - oh my! Jonathan is a brilliant and diverse guitar genius who's style spans surf, pop, country, punk and folk, mostly with Latino/flamenco overtones - complimented by quirky, humorous and clever lyrics that comment on absolutely everything from his hate for airplanes to dancing in lesbian bars. (Definitely try to find the one about hating airplanes, its awesome.) As it states on one website, Jonathan's music is all about the importance of being human - and simply having fun. Check out his live show if you ever get the chance, its probably the most positive, hilarious and happy experience you will have had in a long time. These days he's touring with just his guitar and drummer, Tommy Larkins - that's it. Very minimal, but what a showman he is... worth every penny you spend to see him.
