A step-by-step on how to create your own vinegar-for-itchy-scalp rinse.
If you are going crazy from scalp itchies but can't get your hands on some of our tried-and-true Knotty Boy Dread Shampoo or Peppermint Cooling Spray to treat it, there are a few other natural things you can try before resorting to medicated shampoos from the drug store.
A Vinegar Rinse will not only help kill the itch, it can help remove built-up residue from hair follicles and restore the scalp's natural pH level, which may also be contributing to the itch.
Caution: Even though this solution is quite diluted, you don't want to burn an irritated scalp. Discontinue use if increased irritation occurs.
Detailed Instructions
Step 1 - gather your gear
- 2 Tbsp. Vinegar (plain White or Apple Cider recommended)
- 1 Cup of Water
- Empty Spritzer Bottle
Step 2 - mix it up
Mix 2 Tablespoons of Vinegar with 1 Cup of Water and pour into spritzer bottle.
Step 3 - treat it right
Liberally spritz vinegar solution onto your scalp and let sit for 2-3 minutes.
Rinse through hair with warm water so you don't smell like a fish-n-chips shop, then make up a shower song to sing loudly about saying bye-bye to itchy scalps!
Troubleshooting
- If you find the solution too weak, increase the amount of vinegar a little but be careful, and keep it way out of your eyes. If it's too strong, add more water to the bottle.
- Keep the solution in your shower or nearby to spritz away the itchies up to three times per week.
