Both Dread Wax and Tightening Gel work great for starting locks.

Dread Wax has one advantage in that it is not (quickly) water soluble. After locking up, you can wash your hair (after the initial two week wait) and the Wax's effect will help hold those knots together.

If you use the Locksteady Tropical Tightening Gel to help bind your new locks, you will need to reapply it and palmroll your dreads after most washings. Every head is different - so if you see no fly-away hair (or you don't mind them) you won't need to use the Gel (or the Wax) every time you shampoo.

It's your choice! But since you're asking, we recommend the exceptional hold of our Dread Wax for the first few months to help your dreads along, then a switch to the Tightening Gel to help keep fly-away hairs & frizzies under control.
