Lumps and bumps may be a part of your locks for some time. Tightly felted locks with no stray hairs or inconsistencies are only achieved with time, patience, and regular attention.

Palmrolling damp locks is the best way to keep loops and bumps in check, and to prevent new ones from occurring. One trick to bring unruly loops into line is with a small (0.5) crochet hook. Gently work the hook through from the opposite side, (be careful of your eyes and other important bits of your head!), hook a few hairs and pull them into the lock, or right through the other side, based on their length.

We can't stress the "easy does it" aspect of this enough though, unless you're really into unexpected body piercings!
